Angels are Around With BRFLS Students – The Nurses of Wangfu Hospital Teaches a Class to The International Class of 2nd Grade

In the unit of “Roles of people who are part of our communities”, the international class of the second grade was waiting for the nurses of Emergency Department of Beijing Wangfu Hospital on March 10th Before the arrival of the nurses, teachers led students to think some questions such as, “How many hours do nurses work per day, what kind of equipment do doctors use to save people, etc.”

The title of the nurses’ speech was “Angels are around you”. At first, they introduced what they do every day. Children learned that nurse’s job includes putting on a drip, taking an injection, and cooperating with doctors. Their job also includes providing meticulous and thoughtful care, such as trimming nails for disabled patients.

One nurse also told students a story. There was a doctor who saw a very poor sick person on the street and he could not afford the hospital expenses at all. The hospital still gave him treatment until he recovered and the hospital even helped him contact his lost family members to come to pick him up. Students really liked this story and learned a lot from it. Nurses also prepared some important knowledge for students to learn, such as five steps of first aid and the seven steps of washing hands.

In the interactive section, children asked many interesting questions to the nurses, such as “what is anesthetic?”, “why do some nurses wear blue?” All these questions were patiently answered by the nurses.

Students learned a lot of knowledge about health. Nurses also got a chance to get close to these young and lovely kids. We hope the children would understand nurses and support their work more in the future when they see nurses in the hospital.
