Welcome to BRES PYP!

Welcome to BRES Primary Years Department! Our department offers a bilingual immersion programme that aims to develop students’ bilingualism, cross-cultural understanding and spirit of enquiry. We combine the best of Western and Chinese education, the core curriculum of the National Curriculum and the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) to provide a holistic, high quality and personalised learning experience for our students.

Mission of the IB Organization

The IB’s mission is to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. The organization strives to achieve this by providing rigorous, international education that emphasizes critical thinking, independent research, and community engagement. The IB promotes international-mindedness and encourages students to develop a sense of responsibility toward the global community. It also emphasizes academic and personal development, aiming to shape learners who are not only prepared for university but also capable of making meaningful contributions to society.

Beijing Royal Experimental School's Mission Statement

The vision of Beijing Royal Experimental School (BRES) is to cultivate global citizens who have both an international perspective and a great appreciation and love of Chinese culture. The school strives to best utilize both local and international resources to include all students and staff in the PYP learning community. We encourage teachers and students to explore global issues so that they will become lifelong learners who are eager to inquire and also eager to take proactive action.

Teaching and learning enable students to build diverse subject knowledge and holistic approaches to learning. Learners innovatively apply knowledge in practice and experience diverse cultures, thereby bringing the society closer to individuals, and the world closer to the school. It is believed and expected that empowered students will have the opportunity and capacity to serve their community, and further contribute to the creation of a better and more peaceful world.

Curriculum

Building a Body of Knowledge through Transdisciplinary Inquiry

BRES Primary Years Department adopts the IB PYP Transdisciplinary Curriculum Framework, which integrates knowledge and competencies from Mathematics, Language, Personal, Social and Emotional, Science, Social Studies, Visual Arts, Music and Physical Education classes to make learning more coherent and profound, and to develop students’ interdisciplinary thinking and problem-solving skills.

Bilingual Immersion, Confident Expression

Through an immersive bilingual environment and inquiry-based teaching, the programme enables students to think, express and communicate in real-life situations. Whether in Chinese or English, they will be able to speak with confidence, express their ideas clearly, engage in dialogue with the world, and grow to be logical, creative, and globally minded communicators.

Rooted in China, Eye on the World

The curriculum focuses on developing students’ Chinese roots, giving them a deeper understanding of their own culture, history and values, while expanding their international perspectives through the teaching and learning concepts of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP). Students will learn about the cultures and customs of different countries, develop cross-cultural understanding and a sense of global citizenship, learn to respect and appreciate cultural diversity, and be prepared to take active responsibility in an era of globalisation.

Home-School Collaboration

Working Together to Cultivate Future Talents

Parents are important members of our learning community and are encouraged to be actively involved in their child’s learning journey and work together to support their growth. The day your child joins BRES Primary Years Department, you become a member of our Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). Our goal is to build a bridge of close home-school co-operation through parent seminars, workshops, classroom observations, parent volunteer projects, etc. We aim to build a united, vibrant and caring community for the happy and healthy growth of our children.
