Music is an art filled with emotion. Listening to music is good for relaxation. Music is often times introduced to children in the womb. Music is a part of us throughout our lifetime.
BRFLS, offers an interest class that combines music and children’s imagination. In this way, children can express their imaginative world through music.
This interest class is called ‘appreciating the classic and pop English songs’, which is taught by Ms. Li Xiaojun. There are 14 students from Grade 1, 2 and 3. This semester, they have studied 4 English songs which are 《sha la lalala》,《what does the fox say》,《PPAP》《B what U wanna B》. These four songs are the main focus for this semester in this interest class. Apart from it, they have also studied and listened to at least 10 English songs by analyzing the lyrics and melodies to understand the deeper meanings.
This class has proved to be a great challenge for Ms. Li as all of the students do not have the same English level.
In order to accommodate the needs of the students, Ms. Li has had to adapt to the situation. Therefore she chooses songs which are catchy and easy to remember. She also divides the students into groups so that the groups are balanced and offers rewards for good efforts made each class. Ms. Li also has the children “practice, practice, practice” because afterall, practice does make perfect!
At the end of the semester in the performance the children showcased their talents with “what does the fox say” and “PPAP”.
