Teaching Innovation 丨Mobile Teaching: Kahoot Math Competition

On May 4th, Math teacher Mr. Wei Jilong brought students from class 9-2 to the mobile classroom to hold an interesting competition, which was designed to help students review function lessons through an app called Kahoot on Ipads. Students enjoyed learning through mobile devices.

We had an interview with Mr. Wei Jilong about this class:
Q: What’s Kahoot?
A: Kahoot is an interactive quiz app which could be used to test students and interact with teachers. It can raise students’ learning interests.
Q: How do you know about Kahoot?
A: I observed some high school teachers using this app in their classes. Later an intern from North Carolina called Raven recommended this app to me.
Q: What’s the benefit of mobile teaching?
A: It’s not just about practicing. Students become more active and focused through games, which also make the class more effective.
Q: What could be improved in this class? What other surprises would you bring to your future classes?
A: I’d love to bring more fresh ways of teaching to my students and help them adapt to mobile teaching. In the future, I would design mobile classes that closely relate to real life situations to help students explore the charm of math.

Let’s have a look at what other teachers commented about this class:
Wang Yiman, Math Department leader: Wei’s mobile class showed that students could devote themselves to math classes. They participated in all activities and responded to the teacher actively. It broke the limitations of traditional math teaching and brought out the potential of students. After class, students were still talking about what they had learned in class. In the future, math team will often apply this new method to benefit each student.
Wang Song, homeroom teacher: I’m lucky to have the chance to participate in this class and play games with students through ipad. The most impressive part of this class is that children are obsessed with the competition.
Tong Jiaxin, math teacher: Wei’s class is very interesting. Students could enhance their knowledge through games, which is worthy of learning.
Hao Xufei, math teacher: mobile teaching is a new way of teaching and it diversifies the class. I learned a lot as a new teacher. Students also learn knowledge efficiently.
