Let us Grow Plants, Little Gardeners

During April, the campus is full of green. There is an old saying in Chinese: “The whole year’s work depends on a good start in spring”. Spring is the season of sowing, and every seed is a hope. BRFLS students became little gardeners this semester to enjoy the fun of sowing.

The purpose of this program, sponsored by the French Embassy in China, is to teach children in Kindergarten and elementary school how to grow seeds and take care of gardens, so that their awareness of the natural environment and healthy diet can be improved.

This semester, 35 students chose this interdisciplinary course. They can use knowledge related to science, methodology and ecology to build a garden for teaching. This will let children explore, experiment, practice and apply what they learn from class. Also, their sense of responsibility will be greatly strengthened through this activity.

Students can gain lots of knowledge about life cycles of plants, and they realize the importance of plants to environment, life and health.

Look how happy these kids are. They look like very experienced gardeners! They are also good at asking many questions related to plants. They can also find many insects in the soil!
