Creation and Expression | BRS Science Fair Achievements Exhibition
Creation is the best way for students to internalize knowledge as well as the most beautiful way for them to express themselves. On March 29, 2017, the 3rd BRS’ Science Fair Achievements Exhibition was unveiled in Qing Zheng Calligraphy and Painting Center. The event was initiated by over 50 teams from BRS Junior High and Senior High. For this event, each team exhibited a topic of their choice in the fields of natural science, electronic engineering and environmental protection, and created a product of their sustained research, such as 3D visual technology, the mind games, anti-smog test, virtual keyboard, health and environmental creative works and many others. This Science Fair has greatly broadened the horizons of both BRS teachers and students, and we are all proud of the students’ creative, challenging and independent inventions.

Compared with previous science fairs, the 3rd Science Fair has involved more disciplines. There are displays about medical knowledge such as artificial respiration, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid training except for ordinary science topics.
Another display is about a “vocabulary app”. The students programmed a mobile app to record new vocabularies when learning languages. It can also be used for later retrieval and re-editing. As a result, each person who uses it is able to build their own dictionary.

Many other outstanding works such as singing cups, mind games, anti-smog test, 3D glasses made by convex lens, iPhone and DIY boxes all reflect the students’ curiosity towards science and the society, and the relationship between self and society.
The exhibition adopted the on-site voting mechanism. Each participating teacher or student scanned the QR code on the booth to vote for the top 10 most creative projects. According to statistics, nearly 1/3 of the projects got more than 1000 of the votes. Some even reached 2500 votes.

Science fair is the extension of classes, enabling the students to exert their imaginations. Since 2015, BRS holds a science fair every year. Students work in groups to finish different research tasks under the guidance of teachers. It usually takes about three months or even longer for the program to be displayed at the final stage. Every product is the combination of students’ effort and wisdom.
We listen to the whispers of the wind,
We observe the moment when leaves are falling down,
We are born and we grow up,
Time flows with no trace.
One day, you look back
At those flowery years,
That’s our youth decorated with ingenuity.
