A Great Combination of PYP and Traditional Math – A Math Demo Class
On the afternoon of September 21st, math Teacher Luo Ying gave all the teachers and students in Grade 3, Class 2 a very refreshing class using fluent and standard English.
Luo Ying meticulously designed several class activities. Students actively explored, communicated, and discussed with each other in a harmonious class environment.
She introduced a commonly used teaching method in America “KWL” into her teaching today. This method requires them to use their existing knowledge first, and then acquire new knowledge with strong purpose and interests.
This also embodies the goal of PYP teaching. Students need to become Inquirers, thinkers, and risk takers who also should be knowledgeable, principled and caring.
After the class, all the teachers gave very positive feedback for her class but also expressed their own ideas and suggestions. Many teachers gained a new understanding of PYP teaching from this class.
Knowledge is changing and updating every day. We hope our teaching methods can be innovated to follow the rapid change of this world, but what is most important is to make sure our children learn to love Math!
