Yi Yao’s Ph.D. dissertation on the economic impact of taxation policy in rural China won the coveted Chinese Economic Society’s 2008 Gregory Chow Award, a highly competitive prize awarded annually to an outstanding young economist in honor of the illustrious Chinese American economist, currently on the faculties of both Xiamen and Princeton Universities. Among the research interests that enrich her teaching are the growing gap between rich and poor, the economic effects of education policy, and fiscal reform.
