Shan Zhang

Shan Zhang is an outstanding chemist and teacher who has been working at BRS for seven years. Her goal: make the study of chemistry accessible and engaging to her students. She applies what she learned in the U.S. to cultivate her students’ critical thinking and problem solving abilities through experiments and other hands-on activities.  She authored the first edition of the BRS AP Chemistry Review Guide, an important supplement to the official and dense AP textbook. As department head, she is working to bring instruction and lab work across the high school up to a consistently high standard. For two consecutive years, the BRS student team she coached won first prize in the Royal Chemistry Society’s rigorous “Top of the Bench” chemistry competition. In 2015, she was chosen as a trainer for the Modern Leadership program, a partnership between BRS and UK-based Eton College.
