Let’s Walk on the Path of Exploring—BRFLS Bilingual Science Classes

The Department of Bilingual Academy

We strongly believe that an effective team can improve every member’s capacity. Teachers in the bilingual department are committed to leading students on a discovery journey. They strive to be professional educators.

Demo classes of our bilingual teachers

For the past three weeks, the bilingual teachers presented their demo classes. They focused on many teaching aspects, including class management and stimulating the learning desires of students. This class explored the body parts of human beings. The teacher encouraged students to use movements to feel the different body parts. For example, students used their fingers to touch their heads, shoulders, thighs and even their toes. Also, the teacher showed students flash cards in order to let them visualize what they were learning.

The main focus of Lisa’s class is the senses. She divided students into four groups and gave each group a picture with two faces. Students had to stick the corresponding sense organs on the faces. Children always have rich imaginations, and some groups even drew the other body parts below the faces. This shows how engaging the classroom atmosphere was.

The main focus of the second activity was to talk about their sense organs. They were required to use at least one organ to make a sentence such as, “I can see a dog.” Lisa wrote a number on each picture of an organ. Then, students rolled dice to decide which organ they would talk about.

RowellIdentifying objects through

Rowell’s first science class this semester was in the lab. Rowell designed a sense exploring journey for the students. There were four tables labeled with different themes. The theme of the first table was the sense of touch, so there were a smooth garment, wet wipes and hard wood; the second table’s theme was the sense of smell, and it contained sugar, salt, lemon and coffee. The third table was related to the visual sense, and students were required to observe beans through a magnifying glass. The last table had a mysterious box on it. Students needed to use their five senses to explore the secret in it. Rowell and his students had fun in this class. Students learned through discovering and exploring. It can be seen from their young faces that learning science is enjoyable.

ChristineBody System

Christine’s first class was about the skeletal system. As the skeleton has significant influence on our body system, Christine’s teaching focus was to let students know the importance of skeleton and its’ functions. Apart from a human being’s skeleton, they had also learnt animals’ skeletons in order to extend their knowledge.

In addition, Christine designed a group-based activity in order to practice their active learning ability. Students were required to put pieces of a skeleton (picture) together in order to form a whole human skeleton.

GradyThe Digestive System

Grady’s science lesson was focused on the digestive system. As students’ had already learnt the basics of the digestive system, Grady led students to talk about food safety in this session. At the end of class, students had learned the importance of food safety and how to protect themselves from possible digestive system diseases.

Science is a part of our life. Everything we do can be connected with science such as cooking, gardening and sporting. Exploring science allows students feel the beauty of God’s arts, so that they can be more grateful for everything in this wonderful world! Come on, join us, and let’s walk on the path of exploring science.
