Community recruitment | “Changemakers” Gender Equality Group Recruiting in BRFLS

On March 1, 2017, students of BRFLS gathered in the international conference hall to attend 2017 community recruiting event. “Changemakers” Gender Equality Group together with some teachers in BRS introduced various communities to students.

About “Changemakers”

Changemakers is a gender equality group established by teachers and students from the Institute of social development and public policy of the Beijing Normal University. Currently, the group is working with the United Nations Department of women, Communication University of China, and BRS to enhance gender equality through peer education activities and advocacy of social media.

“Changemakers” is a phrase with double meaning. It means to change the entire violent phenomenon against women and girls. The Chinese translation of “change” is “chengzhi”. We choose orange as our theme color to respond to “Orange day” appealed by the United Nations. “Orange day” is a campaign launched by the United Nations Global Youth Network to combat violence against women and girls.

The theme of this year’s orange day is “Decorating the World with Orange”. “Changemakers” also carried out the acticity “orange campus” in Beijing Normal University and BRS. “Tongzhi” means people who share the same aspirations and “Tong” refers to the LGBT minorities. First, we are a group of like-minded people, working together on the common goal and vision; secondly, “Tongzhi” refers to LGBT minority groups in the modern context, and this is just what we are looking for in this group—“respect of gender diversity”; Finally, we sincerely invite whoever interested in this course to become a member of our small group.

At the recruitment meeting, BRS students who are members of “changemakers” shared their own understanding of gender equality and their unforgettable experience at “changemakers”. Junior high school students listened carefully and there are more than 60 students registered at the recruitment site and expressed their willingness to join the promotion of equality and freedom.

About BRFLS communities

This semester, BRFLS established 50 student associations, including academic speech club, debating society, a talented orchestra, dance club, English game club, animation club and academic community. If all these organizations cannot satisfy you, don’t worry, students can also apply to set up their own communities and open up their own “territory” in the palace of campus”! Some foreign teachers from junior high school also gave detailed introduction to their own communities.
