Lecture Series Provides In-Depth Picture of Cambridge International Examinations

Final exams are approaching and registration for 2017 Cambridge examinations has begun. This was the backdrop for a BRS-hosted Examination and Study Abroad Lecture Series, featuring two experts in the field, Lina Li Senior Manager for East Asia, Cambridge International Examinations and Jerry Gong, Channel Support Manager for East Asia, Cambridge English Language Assessment.

Ms Li provided detailed information on IGCSE requirements.. She explained that IGCSE is divided into five categories: Language, Math, Science, Humanities and Creative/Professional. Students can earn IGCSE certificates and still freely choose from among the program’s 77 courses as long as their program of study covers all five categories and they successfully complete seven courses within two years.


Mr. Gong’s presentation focused on the Cambridge English examinations, describing each of the four exam categories: Young Learners、General English for Schools、Business English、and Academic & Professional English.  He then explained the correlation between the IELTS and the Cambridge FCE, and CAE examinations, which are based on the internationally recognized Common European Framework for language proficiency (CEFR) Cambridge FCE exam scores are equivalent to an IELTS score range of 5 to 6.5 and CAE exam scores are equivalent to an IELTS score range of 7 to 8.

Finally, both presenters answered the question:  “Are Cambridge International Examinations suitable only for study in the UK?” with a definite no.  They stressed that top universities around the world recognize and accept CIE qualifications.
