Debate Enables Us to Become Lifelong Learners: Julia Qin Addressed at BRS

Julia Qin, the world’s seventh-ranked impromptu speaker from Harvard University, addressed a large audience in the BRS main auditorium on June 6, 2017. She said, “If I had one thing to change about China’s education, it would be to put more emphasis on public speaking or debating. Debating interests me because it motivates our willingness to learn and improve, and it also encourages me to aim higher.” Qin believes that debate enables us to become lifelong learners by training our brains to think outside of the box all the time and not just when we are in a formal debate.
