June 2026 – Beijing Royal School (BRS) welcomed a delegation of students, teachers, and parents from Utah, USA. The visit marked the first Utah student delegation to BRS since the pandemic, as well as the first American delegation to the school following the China-U.S. presidential meeting in May 2026.
Youth at the Heart of Bilateral Relations
BRS firmly believes that young people are the future of China-U.S. relations, and that language and culture serve as bridges between hearts. This exchange stands as a vivid testament to that belief.
Symposium Highlights Shared Vision and Historical Resonance
During the symposium, BRS Principal Wang Guangfa affectionately referred to Utah as his “second hometown” and stated, “The foundation of China-U.S. friendship lies in the people, and the hope for the future rests with the youth.” He reviewed BRS’s over two decades of commitment to fostering educational connectivity between China and the United States, proposing two initiatives: the establishment of sister-school partnerships and the upgrading of regular youth exchange programs. He also encouraged young people from both countries to engage in cutting-edge fields such as biomedicine.
Professor Chen Ergang, the U.S. delegation leader, evoked deep cultural resonance by sharing two historical narratives: the role of Chinese laborers in building the North American transcontinental railroad, and Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s revolutionary footprints in Utah. He highly commended the fluent and authentic English of BRS students and expressed his hope that, in the future, American students could visit China with equally fluent Chinese.
BRS Executive Principal Heng Xiaojun, drawing on his extensive experience as a senior diplomat, shared insights on the vitality of Utah’s “Chinese Immersion Program” and proposed deepening people-to-people exchanges through more intimate, everyday forms of engagement, such as homestay arrangements and language partnership programs.
Cultural Workshops and a Milestone Anniversary
Traditional cultural workshops in calligraphy and martial arts brought students from both countries closer together. As BRS approaches its 30th anniversary, this visit reflects three decades of international education and deepening China-U.S. people-to-people exchanges. BRS remains committed to the belief that education knows no borders and will continue to foster cross-cultural understanding with global partners.
