Oxford-BRS Big Dream Competition Held at BRS

On September 28, 2019, the Oxford-BRS Big Dream Competition was held in the BRS auditorium. Established in 2018, the Oxford-BRS Student Entrepreneurship Center at BRS is a joint effort of the Oxford Entrepreneurs and Beijing Royal School. This year, ten groups signed up to compete, and seven groups qualified in the preliminary contest, earning them the right to present their entrepreneurship project in the final. Each team showcased their startup projects on stage, presenting the “big dream” ideas, operational plans and marketing strategies, as well as speaking about the dream’s strong points.

Worthy of note is the excellent lineup of judges: Professor Paul Bhangal, Chairman of Oxford Entrepreneurs; Mr. Harry Moore, Founder and CEO of TopTutor, Oxford Entrepreneur Project Advisor; Mr. James LaLonde, Founder of Yoli English, Yodo Games; Mr. Wang Kuo, Vice President of Laya Box; Mr. Li Yin, Founder and CEO of Qingcheng Maker Education; and Ms. Yu Yao, Vice Principal of Beijing Royal School.

Congratulations go out to Team #5 who presented the “Wangfu Produced” project, winning the first ever Oxford-BRS Big Dream Competition, as well as the corresponding 10,000 RMB start-up funding. The “Surprize” project from Team #7 won the Most Popular Team Award.

Here is a list of the 7 teams’ participants and their projects with a brief description:

1st Group: Liu Xu’s and Mou Yingying’s Scholastic Trans-students Enhanced Platform presentation

●1st Group: Liu Xu’s and Mou Yingying’s Scholastic Trans-students Enhanced Platform–an online, second-hand goods-for-sale platform for students–This system streamlines selling old text books, calculators, etc., eliminating the need for students to hawk their goods outside the cafeterias.

2nd Group: Ding Jun’s Paper Renew Machine presentation

●2nd Group: Ding Jun’s Paper Renew Machine–a portable and handy machine used in waste paper recycling—It can simplify and streamline the recycling process for paper.

3rd Group: Liu Jiaxin’s and He Yi’s University Peer presentation

●3rd Group: Liu Jiaxin’s and He Yi’s University Peer–an Extracurricular Activities Integration platform—This targets international school students in China, providing them a clearer, less complicated and time-saving method for obtaining the comprehensive information they seek regarding activities outside the classroom.

4th Group: Qiao Jiayi’s, Niu Yimei’s, Luo Yipeng’s and Liu Yifu’s Indoor Endless Ski presentation

●4th Group: Qiao Jiayi’s, Niu Yimei’s, Luo Yipeng’s and Liu Yifu’s Indoor Endless Ski– the most advanced skiing experience—This machine and a professional coaching team offers consumers a fantastic experience and a great leap forward in learning quickly how to ski well with every lesson.

5th Group: Ye Zijing’s and Han Jiachen’s Wangfu produced presentation

●5th Group: Ye Zijing’s and Han Jiachen’s Wangfu produced– sells school cultural products designed by students–More like a social enterprise, it establishes a BRS community-minded campus souvenir shop. Both present and former BRS students are the designers, integrating the history of BRS and the campus culture into everyday clothing and supplies, while improving and expanding BRS’s influence on and off campus.

6th Group: Yu Jiachen’s Brain Functionality Enhancing Pharmaceutical presentation

●6th Group: Yu Jiachen’s Brain Functionality Enhancing Pharmaceutical–addresses problems caused by mental illness and mental disorders–It offers a variety of ways to maximize our strengths to balance our flaws, be they mental or physical.

7th Group: Ding Yizhou’s, Huang Doudou’s and Li Yuntong’s Surprize presentation

●7th Group: Ding Yizhou’s, Huang Doudou’s and Li Yuntong’s Surprize–provides customized services for those who seek to create surprises for others–The main idea—or premise—of the business is that ‘everyone needs surprises and everyone should have the sense of ritual’.
