The Global Scholars’ Journey of Food Exploration

Under the joint leadership of three teachers- Cherry, Carrie, and Jacqueline – students in the “Global Scholar” class explored a topic which is essential to our daily lives – food.

Students compiled a series of questions regarding the food we eat every day, and then they fervently discussed food safety and solutions to food waste.

In order to help students better understand our food, Mr. Zhu from Wangfu School Cafeteria was invited to the classroom.  He answered  many questions such as:

  • Where does our food come from?
  • How to keep food fresh, and
  • How to deal with leftovers.

Cross-cultural understanding is one of the most important purposes of this course. Therefore, our students communicated with Indian students in Bombay, India via Skype. They were quite surprised to find out that there is a big difference between Indian and Chinese cuisine.

Students’ communication skills, teamwork and critical thinking skills have improved thanks to this course. We will share more student successes in the near future!
