In May 2019, BRS student Bi Yiping was invited to attend the 4th International Conference on Humanities Science and Society Development (ICHSSD 2019) held in Xiamen, wherein she presented research results of her thesis titled “A Review of Ancient Land Annexation in China: Comparing to Modern Wealth Concentration” to many of the scholars and experts in attendance. Her paper has now been published in the proceedings series Advances in Social Science, Education and Humanities Research (Online ISSN: 2352-5398), and Bi Yiping has also submitted it to be indexed in CPCI (Web of Science) and CNKI.
BRS’s educational practices, such as inquiry-based learning and interdisciplinary understanding, have been adopted to cultivate students’ critical thinking skills, and develop students’ research capabilities in both the academic and co-curricular arena. At age 16, Bi Yiping came to attend BRS’s IB grade 11 class and has been encouraged by her teachers to make interdisciplinary connections between her academic study and to social concerns, and to ultimately write a research based paper on a subject of her choice. Dr. David, who studied political history from Princeton University, also supported Bi Yiping as a young scholar on the aspects of literature searching, data analysis, and how to express these opinions accurately in scientific language. We at BRS are proud to see that more and more students are able to approach the current issues of our world effectively and with an in-depth, interdisciplinary academic understanding, while also seeking to change the world with compassion, creativity and proactive insight: well-rounded and balanced students looking to make the world a better place for everyone.
